World War II Veteran Co-Owner Of Downey's Florist And Gift Gallery

Harris Downey, 91, passed away on July 31, 2019, at The Terrace of Mountain Creek Assisted living facility.

He was co-owner of Downey’s Florist and Gift Gallery along with his wife Doris Downey and son Doug Downey. Downey’s Florist was awarded in the top 500 FTD florist and top 200 AFS florist. He was retired from Provident Life and Accident, was a past agent with Horace Mann Insurance, recipient of many sales awards, Past President of Kiwanis Club and North River branch of Chamber of Commerce. He was a representative for the American Floral Service and Florist Transworld Delivery. He served in the Navy during World War II and Korea on his beloved USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. He attended UTC and Temple University in Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by parents, Otis and Zora Downey of Sale Creek, his wife of 65 years Doris Downey, and all his siblings.

Survivors are her sons, Greg (Gina) and Doug (Debra) Downey, grandchildren, Sarah, Lindsey, Garret, Cody, Kyle and Stephen, and several great-grandchildren.

Family will be holding a graveside military service at the National Cemetery on Monday, Aug. 5, at 11 a.m. for all who wish to attend.

Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
