Free Senior Fitness Classes Begin in February

Local Falls Prevention coalition members are offering five free classes in three locations for seniors of various fitness levels in February: 

Matter of Balance uses facilitated discussion and light exercise for those who have fallen, fear falling or have restricted activity. Class meets from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Feb. 4 for four weeks at South Chattanooga Youth & Family Development Center, 1151 W. 40th St. Call UT Extension at 423-855-6113 to register or download the flyer at www.Hamilton.Tennessee.edu.  

Tai Chi uses gentle movements for all fitness levels to ease arthritis pain and improve concentration and balance. Classes meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning on Feb. 4 for four weeks. Choose from two locations and times: 10:15-11:15 a.m. at South Chattanooga Youth & Family Development Center,1151 W. 40th St., or 3-4 p.m. at Erlanger at Volkswagen (across from plant), 7380 Volkswagen Dr.  Call UT Extension at 423-855-6113 to register or download the flyer at www.Hamilton.Tennessee.edu.  

SAIL (Stay Active & Independent for Life) incorporates aerobics, strength and balance at John Patten Youth and Family Development Center, 3202 Kelly’s Ferry Road. Classes begin Feb. 11 on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 12 weeks. The 10-11 a.m. Intermediate class is for active seniors. The 1-2 p.m. class is for those starting an exercise program or who want easier movements. Call 423-825-5955 to register.
