A cleaning machine was to blame for the evacuation of a local Walmart Neighborhood Market on Thursday night.
Around 7 p.m., the Chattanooga Fire Department was dispatched to 3901 Hixson Pike on a gas leak.
Everyone was removed from the store for safety and the gas company was called to the scene.
The gas was shut off.
Upon further investigation, crews discovered that a floor buffing machine was the culprit. The batteries had failed and ruptured, causing a concerning smell. There was no gas leak.
The machine was removed from the building.
The store was ventilated and everything was turned back over to Walmart management.
