Mocs Tennis Team Wins Seven At MTSU Tournament

Saturday, October 10, 2020
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men’s tennis team scored two doubles and five singles wins at the MTSU Buck Bouldin Battle of the Boro tournament in Murfreesboro, Tenn., today.  UTC came away with a winning record on the opening round of the three-day event.

“It was a pretty solid day,” stated head coach Chuck Merzbacher.  “They guys played well and went 5-4 in singles and 2-2 in doubles.”

Senior Turner Voges and sophomore Simon Labbe moved to 3-1 in doubles in the fall with a 6-3 win over UAB’s Parker Bardbary and Giovani Pasini.  Junior Jacob Marshall and freshman Quinten Nevenhoven had the other doubles wins, a 6-3 victory against South Alabama’s Philip Boseman and Jordan Coutinho.

Voges and Marshall also won in singles play.  Voges beat MTSU’s Andreas Kramer (6-4, 6-4), while Marshall won a three-setter over Coutinho [6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (5)].

Sophomore Bo Nash looked good in his (6-0, 6-2) win over USA’s Ezra Blissard, only dropping two games in his first win of the season.  Nevenhoven also had his first win in straight sets over Pasini (6-3, 6-1).  Freshman Peyton Gatti took the other singles point in three sets over MTSU’s Patrick Kristensen [7-6, 4-6, 1-0 (0)].

Inclement weather in the forecast pushes action to the indoor courts at the Adams Tennis Center on Saturday.  Action begins at 9:00 a.m.
(E.D.T.) and complete results will be posted on GoMocs.com at the end of the day.

Roy Exum: Stewart Statue Will Stay

There is no doubt the Hamilton County Commissioners will respond negatively tomorrow when a petition that calls for the removal of a Civil War statue from the courthouse grounds is brought before the group.
