Atlee Earl Beene, Jr., 72, of Chattanooga, passed away on October 26, 2020.

A native of Chattanooga, Mr. Beene spent many years in Birmingham, Al., before returning to Chattanooga about 30 years ago.

He was in the automotive industry for many years having worked in Birmingham, Dalton and Chattanooga. He was of the Church of Christ faith.

Mr. Beene was a member of the Mid South Boxing Champion League. He owned several rare collectable cars over the years and had a large rare coin collection.

Mr. Beene was an avid gardener and loved working in his yard growing beautiful flowers.

He was the son of the late Atlee Beene Sr., and Doyle M. and Corinne Housley.  He was also preceded in death by sisters, Carolyn E. Linam, Elizabeth Ann Treshansky and brother, William (Bucky) Housley.

Survivors are his wife, Luann Beene;  children, Sondra (Ray) Edler, Atlee Beene III, and John David Beene, all of Chattanooga;  sisters, Bernice Sale, Chattanooga, Jan Gann Anderson, Soddy-Daisy;  brothers, David R. (Barb) Housley, Muscatine, IA and Doyle M. Housley Jr, Benton, TN;  two grandchildren, Jacia A. Beene and Caleigh E. Edler.

Services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Wayne Peters officiating. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens, West. Pallbearers will be Ray Edler, Mark Hulsey, Jay Hasler, David Housley, Doyle Housley, and Darryl “Geneo” Phillips. 

The family would like to express a special thanks to Hospice of Chattanooga and Essie Brown for the love and care they gave to Mr. Beene during his illness.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 E. Brainerd Road.

All CDC guidelines will be observed during visitation including face covering and social distancing.
