CHI Memorial announces that Lee Jackson, MD, has been named physician advisor and medical director of care management for CHI Memorial, in addition to the work he has been doing as the medical director of surgery services.
Dr. Jackson will serve as a consultant and resource for attending physicians regarding hospitalization appropriateness, inpatient or observation status, resource utilization, regulatory requirements and length of stay management. Additionally, as a physician advisor, he will serve a role as liaison to coding, documentation specialists, medical records and third-party payers when necessary. To accomplish these endeavors, Dr. Jackson will no longer see patients in the clinic or perform surgery effective Dec. 1. Patients will be cared for by Dr. Jackson’s colleagues at CHI Memorial Urology Associates.
“Environmental and economic pressures on the practice of medicine have mandated close alignment between physicians and hospital leadership,” says Dr. Jackson. “CHI Memorial has made great strides in the physician-administrator partnership for the benefit of our patients and the community we serve.”
A graduate of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor with a fellowship in renal transplantation and renovascular surgery form the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Oh., Dr. Jackson has been a practicing physician for 32 years. "He has played an active role in shaping policies and practices to advance patient care at CHI Memorial through his work as medical director for surgical services," officials said.
