The Silverdale Academy baseball squad improved to 3-0 on the young season under the direction of new skipper Lance Rorex by pushing across six runs early and holding off a gallant comeback by Grace Academy to record the 7-4 win Thursday night.

SBA, which already owns wins over Chattanooga Christian and CSAS, got off to an early start with the bats pushing across two runs in each three of the first four innings.

In the first, the Seahawks got a two-out spark after Sebastian Hanks and was moved up on Jarrett Clift’s single to left. Hanks then stole third and came in on an errant throw before Connor Delashmitt singled on a hard ground ball to third to push across another run.

In the third inning, Evan Padget got things rolling with a one-out double and came in when Clift”s two-out pop up fell for a double. Delashmitt followed with his second RBI hit to center.  SBA added two more in the fourth when Cameron Mullins opened the frame with a single and Lane Meadows drew a walk. An errant pickoff attempt allowed Mullins to race home and Turner Junkins laced an RBI double to center to make it 6-0.

Grace got two of the runs back in the fifth after Ethan Campbell walked and TJ Walker’s double was misplayed allowing the Eagles to get on the board. Kade Fontana then followed by launching a sac fly to center. The Eagles made things dicey in the bottom of the seventh, pushing across two more before Brody Lamb came in to close it out for Silverdale.

A hit by pitch, a Walker single and a walk loaded the bases to open the inning before Noah Bastain singled on a pop to center. Cameron Grace then pushed a run in on his sac fly before a ground out ended the threat. Clift and Delashmitt each had two hits for the winners while Walker banged out a pair for Grace.

Both squads will now sit and wait for the next couple of weeks during the mandated hiatus.
