Matthew (Matt) L. Gray lost his battle with cancer and stepped out of his mortal body to be welcomed into God’s Glory for eternity, on May1, 2020.

He was of the Baptist faith.

Matt was born July 10, 1972 in Syracuse, New York.  He lived with his family in Shelton, WA. until 1984 when the family moved to Chattanooga.  Matt graduated from Hixson High School in 1990 where he excelled in football, his favorite sport.  After high school he attended UTC.

Matt was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and golfing. He especially enjoyed passing on his love for the outdoors to his son Gage.

Several times a year Matt and his Dad would travel north for Salmon fishing on Lake Ontario or whitetail deer hunting on family property near Hornell, NY.  Many memories and “stories” were generated from these trips.

Duck hunting was his favorite.  During the season you could find Matt on weekends joining his friends at the “Red Castle” duck hunting club in Arkansas.  He developed a strong camaraderie with this group.

Matt was in business with his brother-in-law, Chris, where he was property manager for White Oak Properties, LLC.  Not only did they work well together, they also enjoyed many outdoor activities together. Matt’s sister Heather and Chris organized several family trips together with Matt, Gage, and parents. St. George Island, Fl. was a yearly favorite.

Matt had developed a very wide circle of friends, from all walks of life.  He enjoyed them all and will be truly missed.

Matt is survived by his beloved son Gage L Gray (Peachtree City, Ga.); his parents, Richard L  and Marilou Gray, Ooltewah; sister Heather (Chris) Scoggins and their children, Seth and Graylen, Chattanooga; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins scattered across this great country.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 9, at 4 p.m. at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Pastor Doug Plumlee officiating.

There will be a visitation on Saturday, May 9, from 12 – 3 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 E. Brainerd Road. Social distancing and restrictions will apply.
