Green’s Design And Supply Celebrates 50th Anniversary Of Earth Day With Green Ribbon Cutting

  • Tuesday, May 5, 2020
Green’s Design & Supply, 2103 Dayton Blvd. in Red Bank, is the 25th business to earn green|light certification in Chattanooga through green|spaces sustainable business initiative.

"Green’s Design & Supply is Chattanooga’s local source for green, non-toxic and environmentally responsible building materials," officials said. "Design and consulting services are also available through the business, which earned Silver Level green|light certification, completing over 75 percent of the proposed initiatives.
Green’s aims to simplify the world of 'eco-friendly' by providing solutions for the healthy home and work space.

"Founded on a culture of sustainability, Green’s Design & Supply is both a member of green|spaces and a newly certified green|light business. Green|light, Chattanooga’s green business certification, focuses on guiding locally owned businesses through the maze of corporate sustainability. As external and internal pressures build in our changing environmental economy, it’s vital businesses assess and align operations around sustainability and minimizing impacts. Green|light helps businesses with employee attraction and retention, building a stronger public image, much-needed cost savings and creating a culture of environmental stewardship."

“Longtime supporters of green|spaces, we’re thrilled that Green’s Design & Supply is our 25th certified green|light business!” says Kelley Cureton, green|light program director. “They exemplify the meaning of green|light and we know their achievements will inspire others to further push a culture of sustainability in the workplace.”

"Spearheaded by the Green Team - Emily Eichhorn, Esteban Urrea & Sam Young - Green’s practices the “Earth Day Every Day” mantra, featuring a showroom with abundant natural light & indoor plants, focusing on minimizing VOC emissions from finishes & furnishings and providing a healthy workspace by using safe, natural cleaning products alongside eco-friendly pest control," officials said. "The building itself boasts an Energy Usage Index of 11.17 kBtu/sq.ft./yr, 10 percent of the median usage for comparable retail stores, achieved by maximizing daylight through their East facing storefront, replacing old fluorescent light fixture for new LED fixtures throughout their 1600SF warehouse, and consolidating electronics with enabled sleep mode.

"Green’s is also focused on waste reduction, designating “second use” space for donation to Habitat for Humanity and for optimizing business recycling. Community endeavors include serving as a CSA pick-up location for a local USDA-Certified Organic farm and having organized a Hamilton County Health Department Step One Teaching Garden which provided education and training to local school kids."

“Achieving green|light Certification for us is first and foremost about saving money on energy & operating costs,” says Sam Young,  founder and owner of Green’s Design & Supply. “Beyond that, the certification process was a wonderful deep dive into the nitty gritty bits of our business operations to identify and document areas for both improvement and success. We highly recommend green|light Certification to any business that aims to make a positive impact on their employees, their communities and the nature of business.”
