Talon GC Gets Much-Needed Win Against Orlando Magic Gaming

It took a few weeks, but Atlanta Hawks Talon GC (4-5) finally flew back into the winner’s column. After back to back losses against the Warriors and Jazz gaming teams, Talon Gaming Club won their Monday series against the Orlando Magic.

Michael “BP” Diaz-Cruz had an unbelievable stat line in the second game, scoring a franchise-record 46 points in the 89-53 rout. He could not miss, nailing a variety of long-range shots using the pick and roll and off isolation plays.

“He just got in a zone,” said head coach Wesley Acuff.

“Once he hit a few shots, his confidence was high, and he felt like he couldn’t miss. A great performance by a great player.”

Talon GC rolled through an 11-point deficit in the first quarter en-route to a 69-55 win. In previous games, coach Acuff had spoken about the need to make adjustments, and then adjustments to other team’s adjustments. For the Orlando game, coach Acuff downplayed any adjustments and focused on his team’s shot-making.

“We just hit shots,” said coach Acuff. “I feel like a few games where we couldn’t pull off a victory could’ve had different outcomes if we were making our shots, and that’s what happened in game 2 last night.”

While Diaz-Cruz was scintillating in game two, Mykel “Kel” Wilson ripped up the Orlando Magic to the tune of 28 points and five dimes in a team-leading game one performance. Coach Acuff praised his team’s focus as a difference between Monday’s matchup and previous losses.

“Every team is different so naturally you just get different results depending on who you’re playing,” said coach Acuff. “What I will say is against the Magic our focus and communication helped us get the win. We didn’t force anything. We took what they were giving us, playing through Kel a lot in game 1 since he had the hot hand.”

Talon GC squares off with Sacramento Kings Guard Gaming on Friday at 9:00 p.m. It can be viewed on Twitch and YouTube.
