The last lap is the one that counts. Bet Brandon Overton of Georgia realizes that all too much Thursday night as one of the three hottest racers in America got beat in the Lucas Oil Shootout at Union, Ky.

Tennessean Mike Marlar of Winfield, rubbed past Overton in turn one amid a late race shuffle among the leaders. Local Zack Dohm finished third behind Overton with Jimmy Owens fading to fourth after leading 46 of the 50 laps.

A disintegrated right rear Hoosier Tire was Owens' demise from collecting another big payday.

Dale McDowell of Chickamauga was 9th overall with Blairsville's Jonathan Davenport 15th and Knoxville's Shannon Buckingham 18th. Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg was 23rd of the 24 starters.

One of the other hottest racers in America, Brandon Sheppard (#B5) of New Berlin, Illinois, drove his (not the #1 Rocket Housecar) "Valvolive / Sheppard Auto Sales and Salvage" sponsored Rocket to victory over Brian Shirley (#3) in the annual Herald Review 100 Thursday. The win was worth $5,000 at the quaint 1/5 mile oval "bull-ring" that is Macon (Illinois) Speedway.
