It's Only Make Believe

The “time of the corona“ may be remembered as one of the landmarks of human history. It’s surely the new Roaring Twenties. And in spite of the news media spin, the Democrat convention has to be the most unreal event of the times.

During the Great Depression, Americans were desperate for distraction. Many missed the big in-person events enjoyed before the crash. Enter Martin Block and the marvel of radio. He entertained listeners playing records between news bulletins about the Lindbergh kidnapping. Block borrowed a concept from another disc jockey-the make believe ballroom and it caught on.

Today in the new Roaring Twenties the Democrats are the new Martin Block. They turned their national party convention into make believe ballroom time. They even had a make believe candidate, a masked Joe Biden. Hi ho, silver! Just like Block spinning wax versions of Tommy Dorsey, Michelle Obama rendered a sentimental ballad of make believe about her husband’s presidency. Dr Jill Biden warbled “fairy tales can come true, it could happen to you.” Joe was even making believing he was Lionel Richie.

They showcased Kasich’s song of how Biden’s type of socialism is just make believe. In stark contrast, make believe Democrat Bernie Sanders tried to convince listeners otherwise, that Biden would be much more progressive.

There was plenty of”terpsickery” in the Democrats‘ make believe ballroom. Andrew Cuomo danced around the grim fact that 20 percent of all deaths in America from COVID-19 happened under his watch. As expected the media turned the story into a marathon dance waltzing around over the “success” of the virtual convention.

Eventually Block began broadcasting live performances. Not to be outdone, clever Democrats streamed rock star performances into their ballroom/convention. No mention of violence and anarchy in Portland and Seattle, no reference to looting and burning businesses in big cities, but certainly a lot of singing and dancing. Just like Block, the make believe ballroom kept folks distracted.

There was comedy like Bill Clinton lecturing on proper conduct in the Oval Office. AOC gave a stirring rendition of “the best things in life are free.” Former President Obama attempted a chorus of “things ain’t like they used to be.” There was Liz Warren playing with toy blocks. And like the marvel of radio, modern technology zoomed a live audience for Senator Harris. They even enlarged the crowd using the same people in a number of the squares to make believe there were more supporters.

Other than in the media, where’s the excitement? They should have used a format like Mystery Science Theater with funny comments by little toy robots watching in silhouette. It was clear they don’t want to reduce funding the Post Office but want to radically defund the police. Conway Twitty best summed up this Democrat show, it’s only make believe.
