Howard “Jack” Thomas, Jr.
Howard “Jack” Thomas, Jr., died peacefully on September 22, 2020, at the age of 80.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Marie Thomas, two stepdaughters, five grandchildren and “Emmy Kitty”. From prior marriages, he leaves behind two daughters and an adopted daughter and son.
Jack spent his life serving in the medical field, first, as a dental tech in the United States Air Force. Jack earned his Bachelor of Science in Education from UTK; EMT-P; and Associates Degree in Nursing from Chattanooga State. After active duty, Jack served in the Air Force, Naval, and Army Reserves assisting with emergency medicine training. Jack spent many years in developing EMS and educating EMS personnel. Jack was a founding member of The National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians and a Regional Director of EMS in Southeast TN. Jack was known to the EMS community as “EMS-10.” After many years in emergency medicine, Jack transitioned to nursing.
Jack spent most of his nursing career as a med/surge nurse at Erlanger, but also worked at Hutcheson, Bradley Memorial, and Amedysis Home Health. He will be missed by many.
