The next installment of the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera’s First Horizon Foundation Instrumental Series will be a digital presentation of Dvorák and Ravel, featuring chamber ensembles performing Ravel's lush String Quartet in F Major, the exciting opening movement of Dvorák's String Quintet No. 2, and the Adagio of Elgar's Quintet in A minor, featuring CSO Principal Keyboard Alan Nichols on piano.
To ensure the safety of musicians and audience members in the face of rising COVID-19 cases in the community, the organization’s previously scheduled live performances of Appalachian Spring for Jan. 23-25 have been cancelled.
“We quickly had to pivot and reprogram the upcoming concerts, but we will now be presenting three beautiful works for strings and piano, including selections from Dvorak String Quintet No. 2, Op. 77, Elgar Quintet in A minor for Piano and String Quartet op. 84, and Ravel String Quartet in F Major,” says Kayoko Dan, CSO music director. “I am grateful for the CSO musicians for their help in reprogramming and their enthusiasm for the new works, and to the CSO administrative staff for their adaptability and flexibility in adjusting all of the sudden changes. It takes a village to bring live music to our wonderful community, and we look forward to sharing music in person when it is safe to do so.”
Patrons can purchase access to the concert recording for $10 per household. The concert will be available to view beginning Tuesday at 7 p.m. and will remain available until Friday, Feb. 26, and ticket holders are welcome to view the recording at their convenience at any time during that period.
