The Division II-A East Region schools gathered at Victor Ashe Park in Knoxville Tuesday afternoon for the region cross country championships.
The Silverdale Baptist Academy girls won their first region championship in school history. The Lady Seahawks scored 38 points, followed by state qualifiers St. Andrew’s-Sewanee (60 points) and Boyd Buchanan (70 points). Notre Dame (77 points) and Collegedale Academy (94 points) rounded out the girls team standings.
Sophie Welch of Notre Dame was the Girls Individual Region Champion with a time of 21:20.
Other All-Region runners from the Chattanooga area were Savannah Inman (2nd place) and Jaycee Rogers (7th place) of Silverdale, Chloe Middlebrooks (4th place) and Charlie Barron (8th place) of St. Andrew’s-Sewanee, Ashley Young (9th place) of Boyd Buchanan, Becky Ziesmer (10th place) of Collegedale, and Olivia Truelove (12th place) of Grace. Welch and Ziesmer qualified for state as individuals.
In the boys competition the final standings for the top-3 state qualifying teams were neck and neck. Grace Christian Academy of Knoxville claimed the region crown (70 points). Silverdale (73 points) and Christian Academy of Knoxville (73 points) tied for second, with Silverdale winning the tie-breaker since their number six runner edged CAK’s sixth runner.
Rounding out the boys team standings were Grace Baptist Academy (123 points), St; Andrew’s (132 points), Collegedale (143 points), Notre Dame (170 points), First Baptist Academy (172 points), and Boyd Buchanan (208 points).
Lee Colten of First Baptist Academy flew through the course with a time of 16:31 to finish as the Boys Individual Region Champion. Chattanooga area All-Region runners were Gabe Placer (5th place) and Ryder Finley (7th place) of Silverdale, Noah Johnson (6th place) and Harrison Ragan (12th place) of Grace, and Noah Elam (9th place) of Boyd Buchanan. Johnson, Elam, and Ragan qualified for State as individuals.
The full team and individual results can be viewed here. Qualifying teams and individuals will compete in the DII-A State Meet on Friday, November 5 at Sanders Ferry Park in Hendersonville. The top three finishing teams qualified for the state meet, as well as the next five individuals not on those teams.
