Thanks to two goals from Mattia Balzano and a dominating defensive effort the Lee men's soccer team blanked Lincoln Memorial, 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference matchup for the Flames.
Balzano got Lee on the board in the 29th minute and the Flames would take a 1-0 lead into the intermission. At the half Lee held a slim 4-1 advantage in shots.
The second half belonged to the Flames. The visitors outshot the Railsplitters, 17-2 and held a staggering 21-3 advantage in the contest.
Lee placed 10 shots on frame and the powerful backline of Jeremy Bischoff, Sagi Rada, Nick Meijboom and Noam Stein did not allow a single shot on frame. The Flames controlled possession and earned nine corner kicks while not allowing a single corner for Lincoln Memorial.
Balzano would add his second goal of the match and his team-leading sixth of the season in the 51st minute off a pass from Fabian Navarro to put the game away.
Sam Keener notched his fourth clean sheet of the season and perhaps his easiest as he faced only three shots. Lincoln Memorial goalkeeper, Jackson Jalovec was handed the loss as he allowed two goals and posted eight saves.
The Flames improve to 7-2 on the year while Lincoln Memorial's struggles continued, falling to 1-7-2 on the year.
Lee will play one more non-conference match as it hosts Emmanuel College on Saturday night at 7 p.m. from the Ray Conn Sports Complex. The Flames jump back into Gulf South Conference play on Friday, Oct. 15 as they visit West Florida.
