Betty Jean Poe Duke, 89, of Dalton, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at her residence.

She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Lillie Poe was preceded in death by her grandson, Nicholas Williams; brother-in-law, Roy Duke; and sister-in-law, Pat Boswell.

Betty went to work at Dalton Regional Library right out of high school and celebrated 30 years of service in October 1987. In the early years she drove the Bookmobile and then became secretary to the director and continued to work part-time until retiring in 1995. She loved cats, crossword puzzles and collecting Hallmark ornaments, lighthouses and bells. Betty was a lifelong member of Fuller’s Chapel United Methodist Church and served as secretary and treasurer for the church and United Methodist Women Group.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Bobby Donald Duke; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Charles Williams; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Steve Boswell, John and Shirley Wood; and special caregivers, Ella Mae Green and Misty Darling.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, in the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Bailey officiating.

Burial will be in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 3-7 p.m.
