Eight Local Student-Athletes Tapped For East Team

Tuesday, November 23, 2021

Nearly 90 of Tennessee’s best senior football players and more than a dozen coaches have been named to participate in this year’s East-West All-Star Classic. The event, sponsored by the Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association (T.A.C.A.), will be held Friday, Dec. 10 at Fortera Stadium on the campus of Austin Peay State University in Clarksville.

Local and area players named to the East team include Baylor’s Trey McDonald, Decorian Jones-Montgomery and Bo Black.

South Pittsburg’s Giovanni Davis and DeAndre Kelly along with Cleveland’s Destun Thomas were also tabbed. Conner Delashmitt from Silverdale and Boyd Buchanan's Colbe Haddox were named from local DII-AA teams.

Mark Mariakis of Chattanooga Christian will serve as an assistant coach.

“This event continues to be the marquee event in the state,” stated Bill Marbet, Executive Director of T.A.C.A. “College bound athletes from Memphis, Jackson, Nashville, Knoxville, Chattanooga and the Tri-Cities will participate in our game,” he added.

Leading the East squad this year will be Mt. Juliet Coach Trey Perry. Ingle Martin, head coach at Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville, leads the West staff.

Players will report to Clarksville on Tuesday, Dec. 7. Practice sessions will take place that same evening with two-a-days scheduled for both teams on Wednesday and Thursday of that same week.

Kickoff is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 10, at 7 o’clock, Central Time. Follow @tnallstar on Twitter for more updates.

Roy Exum: Who Was Bobby Hoppe?

Three separate times this week I’ve been asked by younger people, “Who was Bobby Hoppe?” Answer: Probably the best football player in the history of Chattanooga. Another: “Did you ever meet Bobby Hoppe?” I sure did … many times, Bobby was really nice to me. Another: “Did Bobby actually murder some guy when he was playing at Auburn?” Yes, and it is quite a story. AN ESPN documentary ... (click for more)
