George “Andy” Aplin, age 75, of Dalton, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Hamilton Medical Center.
He was born in Blue Springs, Al. on March 31, 1945.
He was preceded in death by parents, Almon N. and Flossie Whigham Aplin; sisters, Eleanor Jones, Ann Stafford and brother, James Aplin; nephews, Robert Sheppard and Sam Brooks.
Andy had a scientific and artistic background. Starting his scientific career at Duke University Immunology Department matching donor and recipients in the early years of kidney transplants. His artistic career included teaching high school art classes, he was a watercolor artist and worked in design and product development in the carpet product. He was a kind, loving man who cared for his family and others.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Rhody Aplin; sisters-in-law, Helen Jean Rhody of Savannah and Katherine Rhody Spradley of Juliette, GA; 12 nieces and nephews; 17 great-nieces and nephews; and 15 great-great-nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Monday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Abel Guerrero-Orta officiating.
The family will receive friends after Mass at the Church.
Burial will be at a later date in Macon, Ga.
