UTC Soccer Places Two On SoCon All-Tournament Team

  • Friday, April 16, 2021

For just the second time in program history, the Chattanooga Mocs played two members on the Southern Conference Women’s Soccer All-Tournament Team.

Junior Shelby Hash and sophomore Mackenzie Smith are two of 11 named to the Champoinship All-Tournament Team after battling league-champion Furman to a 1-0 loss last week in Greenville.

The Paladins scored with less than three minutes remaining in the contest and Chattanooga had a pair of opportunities to respond including one that hit off the post with a minute to play.

Hash and Smith, midfielders, helped control the ball throughout the match. Smith had a pair of shots for Chattanooga. Her first, early in the match was blocked while her second flew high, just above the net. Hash took a shot early in the second half that was saved by Paladin keeper Nora Sampson.

Furman went on to win the SoCon Tournament title Friday night in a double-overtime match at top-seeded Samford and earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The last time UTC had two players named to the All-Tournament Team was in 2003 when UTC advanced to the semifinal round. Diana Jallo and Maya Peel were named to the team.
