Trump, Fascism And The Voter

  • Monday, May 10, 2021

We, the public viewers, voters and the die hard loyalists, have to wonder or they should wonder. I'll explain. This country is woefully divided and history would suggest that this division is not uncommon and only in the moment of crisis can the American public get behind policy and change. The hardness of the divide appears only to worsen not ameliorate.

Did Trump coarsen this division? The answer is yes, but. The collective anger in this country did not start with Trump. It was already present. The country is in the midst of another crisis that should bond us all but how and who or even if there is a who that could bring us all together? Certainly not Trump and his minions. That group cannot even cooperate within themselves. Not Biden, the present president of the United States.

This last week I was in an online discussion with my oldest boy. He lives in Hawaii and even amidst that paradise he is finding himself not at the peace he had anticipated. My youngest lives in Portland, Or. and the pandemic nearly wiped his entire business that of SEO and small business.  My oldest lives in San Diego and works three jobs to get by. She is a teacher and community college professor. She called me this morning saying she is planning on leaving California because she cannot afford to live there. My family is not unique. Can government solve all our problems? The simple answer is no. Can states do more? The answer is yes but for and it is the but for that I most concerned.

Trump's national percentage of support among the American people never went beyond 40 percent. Biden is riding a wave of popularity and it is that ride that is most disconcerting. My solution or maybe folly is threesome leadership team.  All three must have that allure and charismatic featured in such leaders as FDR or Regan or even LBJ.  A black guy and not Rev. Al Sharpton and the third is the assembly line middle class guy. He works for GM and is a union guy. This idea of a threesome akin to the Three Musketeers could be the solution to the many ills we face.  Dumb idea? Let me hear another solution. The two party elective process in this country works only for one party, just one.
