Peter Atkin Christensen
Peter Atkin Christensen, 73, passed away naturally on Monday, February 7, 2022.
Born in Chicago on Aug. 21, 1948, Peter spent his youth in Chicago, Nashville, Knoxville and finally Chattanooga, where he graduated from the Baylor School. A gifted artist, a man of great wit and intelligence, a wonderful cook and an accomplished musician/songwriter, Peter lived an incredible and adventurous life. Apprenticing in New York, he carved stone atop the facades of Manhattan skyscrapers. In Virginia, he became a cooper and furniture maker. In the USVI, he mastered the art of construction on cliff-sides overlooking the sea. In West Virginia, he lived off the land and learned to fix nearly anything. And wherever he went, he could spot a four-leaf clover with remarkable speed.
Peter’s last years were difficult, as his decades of adventure and hard work caught up with his body, which slowed and protested. Yet, even in this difficulty, Peter’s artistry shined and one could see a vibrant soul within his eyes.
Peter is survived by three sisters, Ane, Ellie and Sally, daughter, Rachel (Will), son, Jens (Christy) and grandchildren, Maggie, Alexander, Ezra, Evan and Luke.
A celebration of life will be arranged at a later date.
