Waymon Raven Vickery passed away peacefully on January 30, 2022, at Martin Boyd Christian Home. He was 85 years old, born on November 23, 1936, in Gadsden, Alabama.

Waymon was the eldest of seven boys, proudly attended the University of Alabama and was a lifelong Alabama football fan. He and Evelyn moved to Chattanooga in 1976.  He was in the automobile repair business for his vocation, but his lifelong passion was music.

Waymon was devoted to the music of Chet Atkins and regularly gathered with many of his friends at the annual convention of the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society in Nashville.  Waymon was a talented guitarist and singer and spent countless hours practicing and entertaining others with his music.

He was the song leader for approximately two decades at Hixson Church of Christ, now Clear Creek Church of Christ, where he has been an active member for many years.  Waymon is often described by friends and acquaintances as a sweet man, he loved people and making others happy, and was always generous in telling others he loved them.  Above all, Waymon loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Waymon was also a car and motorcycle enthusiast as well as an avid reader.  He founded Bavarian Auto in Chattanooga, and later, Eurasian Auto.  He loved helping people and had many loyal customers who became friends through the years.

Waymon was preceded in death by his son, Michael, his brother Benjamin, and his parents Raven and Blanche.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Evelyn; son, Mark; grandson, Alex; daughter-in-law Debbie; brothers Anthony, Jonathan (Patricia), Dale, Dexter (Jane), Dwayne (Betty); sisters LaJuana Burgess (Bob), Chiquita Moss; and sister-in-law Faye along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate Waymon’s life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary at Clear Creek Church of Christ.  There will be no visitation before or burial following the service.
