Longtime Kindergarten Teacher At Lookout Mountain Elementary School

Barbara Lane, 94, of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, went home to be with her loving husband on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. 

 

She was a 1946 graduate of Lebanon Junction High School in Lebanon Junction, Ky.  Following her high school graduation, she received a bachelor’s degree in Business from Western Kentucky University and a teaching degree from the University of Kentucky.  Mrs. Lane worked in the Accounting Department for 10 years with the L&N Rail Road and she retired in 1996 from the Hamilton County Department of Education as a kindergarten teacher at Lookout Mountain Elementary School with 25 years of service. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chattanooga where she was a member of the Water’s Sunday School Class, had served as Sunday School Teacher throughout the years, and she was a participant with the WMU. 

 

She loved her family and grandchildren dearly. She enjoyed sewing and was a beautiful seamstress.  Mrs. Lane loved to bake pies, cakes, and bread; and she enjoyed entertaining her family and friends.  She loved to watch her grandchildren play sports and she was an avid Kentucky Basketball fan.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Davis Lane; and brother, Kenneth (Bonnie) Masden.

 

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Greg Sharrock; brother, Leonard (Jane) Masden; grandsons, Barrett (Brooke) Gouger and Chandler (Kelly) Gouger; great grandchildren, Murphy and Sunny; special niece, Tina (Wilson) Thomas; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 28, at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Chattanooga with Dr. Thomas Quisenberry officiating.

 

Entombment will be at the Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

 

The family will receive friends Saturday, May 28, from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour at the church.

 

Arrangements are by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, Rossville.
