Sculpture Field At Montague Park To Unveil New Sculpture Friday

Sculpture Fields at Montague Park will host a ribbon cutting to unveil its newest steel sculpture entitled, Lime Green Wedding Cake. The sculpture created by artist, priest and Notre Dame University professor, Austin I. Collins. Lime Green Wedding Cake is sponsored by Food City.

The unveiling will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at 1800 Polk St. 

Opened in 2016 by internationally renowned sculptor John Henry, and wife Pamela, the Sculpture Fields at Montague Park is a 33-acre outdoor art museum that brings together masterpieces from all over the world on a scale like you’ve never experienced. With more than 15 permanent and 24 visiting works of art, it is the largest sculpture park in the Southeastern United States and one of the region’s premier destinations for residents and tourists alike, located just two miles from downtown Chattanooga. The park offers free parking, a self-guided tour, educational resources for students, space and trails for fitness activities, and is friendly for leashed pets. Gates are open to the public for free seven days a week from dawn until dusk - all are welcome to enjoy.

Families are encouraged to host a picnic in the park to celebrate and honor their mothers this Sunday 8 for Mother’s Day.

Austin I. Collins, C.S.C., is the religious superior of the Holy Cross Priests and Brothers at The University of Notre Dame Notre Dame, he concurrently serves as a member Notre Dame’s Board of Trustees and Board of Fellows. Mr. Collins was ordained a Holy Cross priest in 1982, after graduating from Notre Dame in 1977.

Mr. Collins is a professor of sculpture in the Department of Art, Art History and Design at the University of Notre Dame. Collins Studied art at the University of California at Berkeley and received a M.F.A. in sculpture from Claremont Graduate University in 1985.

Mr. Collins’s area of practice includes public art, large outdoor sculpture, installation art, and liturgical art.  The theme of his creative work often deals with political and social issues. Mr. Collins has had over 140 exhibitions, including exhibitions at Northwestern University, University of Tennessee, University of Alabama, University of California, University of Virginia and The Fredrik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park.  His work has been placed 50 public and private collections. He has also given public lectures at various institutions across the country. Collins has served as chair the of the department from 1997 through 2003, has served on the academic council, the faculty senate, arts and letters college council and numerous University committees.
