The Chattanoogan.com Pick 'Em Poll Is Back

Saturday, August 13, 2022 - by Dennis Norwood

In the immortal words of long-time Tennessee Vols’ announcer John Ward, “It’s football time in Tennessee!”  And with that comes this season’s version of The Chattanoogan.com weekly “Pick ‘Em Poll.” Look for the initial week's poll to be posted Sunday evening.

Each week you, the readers, will go head-to-head with our panel of pickers in choosing the winners of that week’s selected high school football games. Most week’s we’ll turn off the picks on Thursday at noon, however, if there is a Thursday night game among that week’s selected contests, as is this week's case, the poll will end at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Be sure to submit your picks via the posted form before that week's deadline.

This year there are two new faces on the panel with Local News 3’s Mary Frances Hoots and WDEF’s Dave Staley joining Cowboy Joe Varner of WGOW’s Sports Talk, The Red Zone’s Pat Benson and Jeff Cate and The Chattanoogan.com’s James Beach and John Hunt  in the quest for bragging rights.

I know last year’s champs Varner and Beach are set to defend their title, so get ready, get set and go to join in the fray.

Quarry Across From Reflection Riding Is A Terrible Idea

The Regional Planning Agency recently passed a rezoning proposal for a quarry across from Reflection Riding Arboretum and Nature Center on the west side of Lookout Creek. Shockingly, this proposal goes to the City Council on Oct. 10 for approval. The residents at Black Creek development and Covenant Logistics are justifiably against this zoning change and have many concerns about ... (click for more)

Roy Exum: MTSU's Biggest Win Ever

There are those among us who believe Tennessee’s 38-33 win over Florida was the biggest win in the South on Saturday but, ah, that’s because they still don’t know that “little” Middle Tennessee State, a 25-point underdog to nationally ranked Miami, just clobbered the proud-and-might Hurricanes in a far-better football game. That’s right, MTSU clobbered No. 25 Miami, 45-31, Saturday ... (click for more)
