KraftCPAs PLLC announced that Spencer Mercer has been named member-in-charge for the firm’s Chattanooga office. He succeeds Tim Stees, who will retire in late 2023.

Mr. Stees was a founding partner of Matheney Stees & Associates PC, which was acquired by KraftCPAs in 2020.

“Tim has been an incredible mentor and leader, and we’ll be working closely together to make the transition as smooth as possible,” said Mr. Mercer, who joined KraftCPAs in 2009. “The next few months will be a great opportunity to learn more about his clients and make sure everything’s in place.”

Mr. Mercer, a CPA and University of Tennessee graduate, will supervise a staff of almost 20 people and manage client relationships for the Chattanooga region. He has extensive experience in tax planning, consulting, and compliance at both the corporate and individual level.

Founded in 1958 by the late Joe Kraft, KraftCPAs is one of the largest independent certified public accounting firms in Tennessee with five affiliate companies and more than 250 employees in Chattanooga, Columbia, Lebanon, and Nashville.
