Dr. Dawn Ford Takes Over As President Of The Tennessee Public Health Association

Dr. Dawn M. Ford (Chattanooga) assumed the role of president for the Tennessee Public Health Association (TPHA) during the closing session of the Association’s annual business meeting and education conference.

Joining Dr. Ford as new officers of the Association are: Emily Rushing, President-elect; Matt McDaniel, Vice President-elect for West TN; Shatonia Kenion, Vice President-elect for Middle TN; and Michelle Moyers, Vice President-elect for East TN.

Two new board members approved by the Association’s full membership are Dr. Emma Davis and Dr. David Shohum who will each serve three-year terms as representatives for the East Region.

Dawn M. Ford, PhD, CPH, is manager of the Epidemiology Department for the Hamilton County Health Department and faculty at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Walden University. She is currently a Social Change Fellow at Walden.

Emily Rushing, MPH, is the County Director for the health departments of Henderson, Carroll, and Chester counties in West Tennessee.

Matt McDaniel, MS, MPH, MPA, is Assistant Professor of Teaching in the College of Health Sciences at the University of Memphis.

Shatonia Kenion, MPH, is the Director of Strategic Operations with the Office of Strategic Initiatives, Tennessee Department of Health.

Michelle Moyers, MPH, is the Director of Community Health at Knox County Health Department.

Emma Davis, PhD, is the County Director for the health departments of Cocke and Sevier counties in East Tennessee.

David Shoham, PhD, is Chair of the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, College of Public Health, East Tennessee State University.

Christian Williams, DrPH, MPH, is Assistant Professor and Director of the Public Health Program at Belmont University.

Organized in 1939, TPHA is the official professional organization for those engaged or interested in public health and is widely recognized as the voice for public health in Tennessee. With more than 900 individual and agency members, TPHA serves as Tennessee’s affiliate organizations for both the American Public Health Association (APHA) and the National Association for County and City Health Officials (NACCHO). Its mission is to protect, promote, and improve the health and prosperity of people in Tennessee by advancing health policy and practice, increasing awareness about public health issues, and providing education and professional development for public health professionals.
