Betty Sue Emmert, 73, passed away at her home in Hixson, Tennessee, on Monday, February 13, 2023.

She was born in Bristol, Va., and was a longtime resident of the Hixson area. Betty Sue retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield where she worked on medical policies. Betty Sue was a registered nurse who brought joy to many different people while caring for them over her years of working, especially in pediatrics at Children’s hospital.

Betty Sue loved her church family at Hixson United Methodist, where she grew in her relationship with Christ and connected with people in her weekly Sunday school group.

Betty Sue had a passion for Volunteer football - she was famous for her game day updates on Facebook each week. She also had a love for dogs, especially her miniature dachshund, Sophie. Betty Sue was a true shining light in this world. She was known for her quick-wit, joyful spirit, and outgoing personality.

Betty Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Kathleen McKinney Emmert and Charles Emmert, her dister, Charlotte Gray, and her brother, Larry Emmert.

She is survived by her nephew, David (Tammy) Gray, niece, Teresa (Darin) Tipton, great-niece, Abigail (Austin) Moore, great nephews, Jeffrey and David L. Gray; and many cousins and extended family.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, and 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Betty Sue’s life will follow at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the North Chapel with Dr. Chuck Starks officiating. Burial will be held in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made in Betty Sue’s name to Hixson United Methodist Church, 5301 Old Hixson Pike, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
