Delbert L. Butler, Sr., 86, of Hixson, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2023.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Jackie. He was born to Hal and Addie Butler in Ft. Cobb, Ok., on June 10, 1936. A graduate of Chattanooga Central High School in 1954, he began his career within the arena of welding engineering with Combustion Engineering, ABB and Alstom spending nearly 60 years with this passion. He traveled extensively abroad sharing his knowledge. He made many friends and some enemies, you can decide. His nickname of “Askole Butler” is self-explanatory for the ones close to him.

He was a lifelong member of the American Welding Society, one of the early members of Hixson Community Improvement League (Hixson Youth Athletic Association) and was honored as an inductee to the Dizzy Dean Baseball Hall of Fame for his years of commitment with youth sports. He spent countless hours supporting the Hixson High Marching Band and majorettes.

He was truly a family man, committed to having that helping hand. It seemed his answer was “when” before even saying “yes”. He loved his kids and more so his grandkids. A lot of good times with laughter were spent around the kitchen table.

Those left to cherish his memories are his son, Lee (Jan) Butler, daughter, Kelli (Frank) Seymour, granddaughter, Melissa (Michael) Cabe, grandsons, Jacob (Jennifer) Butler and Chad Seymour and great-granddaughter, Autumn Perry, Sister-in-law Mildred Butler and a basket full of nieces and nephews.

The family is asking in lieu of flowers, donations be made in memory of dad to: Morning Pointe Foundation, Nursing Scholarship Fund, 5501 Old Hixson Pike, Hixson, Tn. 37343

Visitation for friends and family will be on Saturday, April 1, from 12-3 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 5201 Dayton Blvd., Chattanooga. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. with Pastor Greg Powell officiating.

The graveside service will be held on Monday, April 3, at 11 a.m. at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
