Lee University’s Chamber Strings will present “A South American Flavored Evening” on Tuesday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m. in Pangle Hall.

The concert will feature South American works by composers such as Piazzolla and John Williams, pieces such as “Bésame Mucho” and “Havana,” and “a little bit of Samba.”

“We look forward to sharing some beautiful South American music with our audience,” said Xiaoqing Yu, associate professor of violin and Chamber Strings director. “It's so appropriate to listen to gorgeous music before the summer.”

Chamber Strings is a dynamic ensemble comprising the university’s finest violinists, violists, cellists, and bassists providing innovative programming for venues on and off campus.

Mr. Yu joined Lee’s faculty in 2004 teaching violin, viola, and chamber music. He served for 24 years as concertmaster of the Greenville Symphony and performs with the Glimmerglass Opera Orchestra, a 10-week annual summer opera festival in New York. Mr. Yu has also performed in numerous concert halls, including Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Center, and was a member of the Brooklyn Philharmonic and American Chamber Orchestra, performing in nearly 100 European cities.

The concert is free, non-ticketed, and open to the public. Pangle Hall is located on the corner of Church Street and Central Avenue.
