Mary Bell Howell
Mary Bell Howell, 93, of Apison, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2023, in a local assisted living facility under Hospice care.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wurlitz Bell; husband, Lee Howell; parents, Myrtle Nance Wilson and John Straley Wilson; disters, Edith Garner, Louise Thaxton, and Ruth Longley; brothers, James Wilson and Cecil Wilson; and son-in-law, Mike Goodman.
She worked for McKee’s of Collegedale after serving as a homemaker for 18 years. She was a wonderful wife and mother and was well-known for her exceptional cakes and pies. She loved to knit and crochet and welcomed many new babies into the world with her well crafted art. Apison Methodist Church became her church family when she joined at an early age. She remained a faithful member and had a passion for helping the homeless and those less fortunate. Her support of “The Mustard Tree Ministry” helped feed many individuals in the Chattanooga area.
She is survived by her daughters, Connie (Mike) Holsomback and Cathy Goodman; son, Randy (Gina) Bell; stepchildren, David (Lori) Howell; Jan (Ed) Smith; grandchildren, Brandon (Babs) Bell; Jessica Leanne (Tom) DiMarco; Jaycee Kate Bell; Jonathan Shattuck; Dr. John Michael (Erin) Goodman; Austin Goodman; step-grandchildren, Austin Howell; Brandon Howell; Caitlyn Howell; Tanner (Liz) Smith; Makenna Smith; great-grandchildren, Olivia Starnes; Mary Starnes; Bryce DiMarco; Angel DiMarco; Samuel DiMarco; Elijah DiMarco; Gloria DiMarco; Hyland Bell; Russ Bell; Chess Bell; Matthew Shattuck; Piper Goodman; Peyton Goodman.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 22, from 4-6 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home on 7454 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, and will be followed by a private service and burial on a separate date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to “The Mustard Tree Ministry,” mustardtreeministries.org; Apison Methodist Church, 4412 Bill Jones Road, Apison, Tn. 37302; or an organization of your choice.
