Richard S. Belcher Sr.
Richard S. Belcher Sr., President Emeritus of Citizens Savings and Loan Corp., passed away on April 14 after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease.
He was a native Chattanoogan, and graduated from Chattanooga High School as president of his class. He continued to organize class reunions until his disease made that impossible, but he loved gathering with long-time friends.
He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Fraternity. His career was in the field of Finance, and he served several terms as president of the Tennessee Financial Services Association. He also served on the board of the American Financial Services Association, Independent section.
A humble man, he nevertheless took pride in achieving the status of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. He made the Boy Scout Oath and the Golden Rule models for the way he lived his life. For a number of years he served on the Eagle Review Board of the Cherokee Council, BSA. He also was on the River Park Advisory Board.
He was a faithful member of Clear Creek Church of Christ, and served as chairman of the finance committee for around 25 years.
He is survived by his wife (and high school sweetheart) Suzanne, his daughter, Denise Belcher DeArmond (Dr. Eben), son, Dr. Rick Belcher (Kelly), one grandson, Samuel Richard Belcher, two granddaughters, Hannah Belcher and Bailey Belcher.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to Chattanooga Room In The Inn or to Chattanooga Metro YMCA for Camp Ocoee scholarships.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 18, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., with a memorial service at 1 p.m., Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel.
