Robert Fisher Maffett, Jr., 86, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on June 16, 2023.

Robert, fondly known as Bob and/or Robbie was born on Nov. 4, 1936, in Florence, SC. He moved to Chattanooga as a young adult. Bob quickly became involved in several community organizations, the most notable being the Chattanooga Jaycees. He became president of the Chattanooga Jaycees in 1971. In that same year he won an award for Outstanding Young Man of the Year. His services to the community were described as “overwhelming” by a Jaycee spokesperson.

Bob’s community service activities include directing the Chattanooga Area Literacy Movement and the vice-presidency of the Orange Grove center. He was a member of the Chattanooga Convention and Visitors Bureau, Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, Jaycee Progress Inc., Jaycee Foundation, the Alcoholic Rehabilitation Inc., and the Hamilton County Kidney Foundation.

Bob was also named Chattanooga Jaycee of the year and was named as one of the four “Outstanding Jaycees” in the state.

Before joining the city government staff in 1968, Bob was employed for eight years on the management staff for J.C. Penney Co.

Bob was a devoted fan and supporter of the University of Chattanooga at Tennessee football and basketball teams. He maintained season tickets for several decades. He was an especially avid fan of the Lady Mocs basketball team and regularly traveled to away games.

Bob was proceeded in death by his parents, Robert Maffett, Sr and Ouida McCown and his siblings, Margaret Nance, Haney Maffett and Jack Maffett. Left to cherish his memories are his daughters, Pamela Piercy and Stacie Roberds, his grandchildren, Mason Piercy, Spencer Piercy, Drew Piercy, Avery Piercy, Olivia Puszkar and Max Roberds and his great grandchildren, Eli Piercy, Lincoln Piercy and Raelynn Puszkar.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 23, from 2-4 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel, Hixson. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 4 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with family and friends officiating. Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens at a later date.
