Clara Imogene (Jean) Wallace went to her heavenly home on August 15, 2023 at the age of 96. She was a member of First Baptist Cleveland and the Gleaners Sunday School Class. She was born in Bradley County and lived in Cleveland most of her life. She was a graduate of Bradley Central High School, Class of 1946, and Erlanger Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1949. She loved music and taking care of people. She loved her family and was always there for them. Spending time with them was her favorite thing to do. They were the love of her life. Her countenance would change tremendously when she talked with her grandchildren or great-grandchildren, or when they visited. She loved being outside in the yard taking care of her flowers, reading, working puzzles and feeding the birds.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Harvey Brown and Maude Moyer Brown; husband, James E. Wallace, Sr.; son-in-law, William Robert (Bobby) Smith, of Franklin; four brothers, Clarence, Hubert, Paul and Jack Brown; and two sisters, Ruth Wallace and Inez Davis.
She is survived by her son, James E. (Mike) Wallace, Jr. (Marsha), of Cleveland; daughter, Lisa W. Smith, of Franklin; three grandchildren, Lindsay Coleman (Craig), of Franklin, Trey Smith (Allison), of Nolensville, and Abby Torres (Andrew), of Hurst, Tx; five great-grandchildren, Macy and Jake Hester, of Franklin, and Rhett Torres, Colton Torres and Clara Joy Torres, of Hurst, Tx.; and many nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to friend, Carol Hunt, for the care and friendship she provided for Jean, and the staff of Legacy of Cleveland for the loving care they provided for her.
The visitation will be Friday, Aug. 25 from noon-2 p.m. at the Cleveland Chapel of Companion Funeral Home. The Celebration of life will be at 2 p.m., with Rev. Jim Gibson officiating. Pallbearers will be Bill Brown, Larry Davis, Carlon Davis, Rick Jenkins, Tom Reese and Andrew Torres.
Internment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery after the service. Jean requests no flowers, but memorials to be made to St. Jude Children Research Hospital Honors, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tn. 38105.
