Jackie Shields
Jackie Shields, age 83, of Evans, Georgia went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 25, 2023, to be with his wife, Sheilah Allene (Moore) Shields, who passed away on December 5, 2010. They were married for 50 years of bliss.
Mr. Shields was born in Chattanooga, and was a 1959 graduate from Central High School. He later attended Chattanooga State. He worked as a Power Operator Training Center instructor. He was baptized at Woodland Park Baptist Church, and last attended Wesley United Methodist Church. He served our country in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Hixson Chapter 310 OES, and served as worthy Patron in the lodge. He was chairman of International Temple Funds for a brand new chapter in Tennessee. He was also a Master Mason at Hixson Masonic Lodge #727 F&AM.
Mr. Shields started off his career with Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) as an Instrumentation Mechanic at Allen Steam Plant, located in Tennessee. He loved his job at TVA as a certified instructor in power plant training under Joe Johnson in Soddy-Daisy, TN. In 1989 he completed 19 yrs as a level 3 manager in power operations center technical control. He was better known as the BAT. He took a job with SRS as an electrical instructor. He retired after 15 years from SRS under Brian Givens. The site of retirement was Washington, Savannah. He was certified at Westinghouse as a qualified instructor for the electrical instrumentation program under his supervisor, Bob Andy and he also worked for Bob Patterson.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Shields; sisters, Nola, Edith, Mary Sue, Frankie and Betty; mother, Minnie D Shields, and father, John I Shields of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Survivors are his children, Angela Marie Hamill and Eugene Shields, grandchildren, his namesake, Jackelyn Michelle, Kaili Carissa and Clinton Bailey and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5, in Chattanooga Memorial Park with Bro. James Eggert officiating.
