Lynda Gayle Wright
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lynda Gayle Wright of Signal Mountain, Tennessee, on June 11, 2024 after a brief illness. Her brother, Philip Wright, and her best friend of 60 years, Pat Maher, were holding her hand when she passed away peacefully.
Lynda grew up on Signal Mountain where she worked as a lifeguard at the community swimming pool for many Summers. She also spent much time exploring the woods and creeks behind her home where she developed a deep appreciation of nature from an early age. She was a 1959 graduate of City High School in Chattanooga and a 1965 graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where she secured a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. During her time at UT, she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and was involved in several theatre productions including “Pal Joey”. She was also a prolific artist, painting natural landscapes in oils and watercolors of her favorite places in Tennessee, North Carolina, and The Rocky Mountains.
After college, Lynda returned to Signal Mountain to raise a family and found a renewed love of animals by managing a horse boarding stable. The knowledge and experience she gained during this time along with her love of agriculture ultimately led to a passion for showing Tennessee Walking Horses as well as gardening. It was this love of gardening that eventually led her to Signal Mountain Nursery where she was an employee for over 30 years; taking great joy in sharing her extensive and self-taught knowledge of plants and horticulture with her many customers and friends.
When not at work, Lynda preferred the quiet serenity of rural life and enjoyed her simple country home on the back of Signal Mountain where she raised chickens, tended a lovely garden, and took daily walks with her dog, Molly, on her beautiful property. She also had an immensely strong faith and was both a member and regular attendee at Signal Mountain Bible Church.
Lynda was preceded in death by her former husband of 23 years, Landon H. Goins; her parents, Joel B. Wright and Dorothy H. Wright; her brother, Joel B. Wright Jr.; and a beloved daughter, Chrisie Goins, whom she cherished deeply.
She is survived by her brother, Philip Wright, of Signal Mountain; and her two daughters, Sandra Goins of Santa Fe, N.M., and Amy Goins of Colorado Springs, Co.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 21,. at Signal Mountain Bible Church, Signal Mountain, with a visitation held one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Samaritan’s Purse Samaritan’s Purse International Disaster Relief — International Relief (samaritanspurse.org) (PO Box 3000 Boone, NC 28607) in Lynda’s memory.
