Mechanical Breakdowns Hamper Recycling Collections

  • Monday, January 22, 2024

Mechanical breakdowns impacting several trucks have created a temporary disruption in recycling collection services at the Chattanooga Department of Public Works.

The city was working to complete Monday’s routes, but officials said it is likely that some pickups will be missed.

Any recycling not collected Monday will be prioritized for pickup Tuesday. Garbage pickup was affected by the mechanical issues, but it is unlikely to experience a significant schedule change this week, it was stated.

City residents with a Monday pickup day whose recycling was not picked up Monday should leave their recycling out to be collected Tuesday.

Last week, inclement weather disrupted trash pickup significantly, leading most routes to be missed due to safety concerns with icy roadways.

Because many of those same residents are being affected by this week’s disruption, Public Works is prioritizing missed pickups while a permanent solution is put in place. The Chattanooga Department of Public Works expects to be able to complete all garbage and recycling pickups by the end of the week.

We apologize for any inconvenience and ask for the public’s patience. Any resident who believes their garbage or recycling was missed in error should call 311.
