The International Brotherhood of Police Officers, Local #673, has endorsed General Sessions Court Judge Alex McVeagh in his campaign for Division III of Hamilton County Circuit Court.

His campaign said, "Judge McVeagh is proud of the continued support of law enforcement and members of the judiciary.  This endorsement follows the recent endorsements of retired Sheriff Jim Hammond, retired Mayor Jim Coppinger, retired Circuit Court Judge Neil Thomas, Circuit Court Judge Justin Angel, and 11 other local judges."

“The International Brotherhood of Police Officers Local 673 proudly endorses Judge Alex McVeagh for Hamilton County Circuit Court Judge,” said Joseph Ogg, president of the International Brotherhood of Police Officers Local 673 and law enforcement officer with the Chattanooga Police Department. “Judge McVeagh has had an excellent relationship with the Law Enforcement of Hamilton County and the City of Chattanooga over his last six years as a General Sessions judge. He is held in high regard by law enforcement as fair and just with a reputation for coming in early and staying late, while sacrificing his personal time outside of court hours to meet with law enforcement for search warrants and other time-sensitive documents needed to ensure justice for our citizens.

“Judge McVeagh established the misdemeanor drug court within Hamilton County, which has provided the court system with additional methods to reform our citizens who struggle with drug addiction. This program has lowered the recidivism rate of the individuals assigned to it through intensive supervision, treatment, and education. It has also directly contributed to saving the citizens of Hamilton County thousands in court costs and helped relieve the backlog to the court system to deal with violent offenders. We look forward to seeing Judge McVeagh continue to improve our judicial system as the next Circuit Court Judge in Hamilton County.”

“Hamilton County’s brave men and women in blue know my record as a judge,” stated Judge McVeagh. “I am so grateful and honored to receive the support of these officers who know the importance of this race for Circuit Court, and thank them for placing their trust in me to serve Hamilton County in this important state court.”

The IBPO Local #673 represents nearly 500 law enforcement professionals, serving multiple agencies within Hamilton County and the surrounding areas. Judge McVeagh has served Hamilton County as a civil and criminal General Sessions judge for nearly seven years and continues to work closely with law enforcement as he has presided over an estimated 80,000+ criminal and civil cases since being appointed by Governor Bill Haslam in 2017 and elected by the voters of Hamilton County in 2022, it was stated.

The election for Division III of Hamilton County’s Circuit Court will be held on March 5.  Early voting begins on Feb. 14, and ends on Feb. 27.
