Melinda Stapleton Benjamin, 85, of the Chattanooga area, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

Melinda was a Christian and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga.

She always enjoyed old movies, antiques, and since her studies were in design, she worked in interior decorating and art. Melinda was also very knowledgeable on a diversity of subjects, especially Scottish and English history, and willingly shared it with others.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore R. Stapleton and Helen Jane Carruth Stapleton; her first husband, Thomas V. Kirkland; son, Frederick Alexander Kirkland; step-children, Robert Benjamin and Julie Benjamin.

Survivors include her husband, James P. Benjamin; son, Thomas S. Kirkland (Marie); stepchildren: Kimberly Beck (Gary), Phillip Benjamin and James Benjamin (Starla); cousins: Erin Carruth Warns, Susan Stapleton McLaurin, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation is from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Monday at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday in the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park.
