Timothy Rex Gardner, fondly known as “Grandpa” to his nine grandchildren, passed away at the age of 69 on October 20th, 2024.

He was born on September 23, 1955, at Hamilton Air Force Base in California.

Tim leaves behind his loving wife, Jackie Newman Gardner, with whom he shared 46 wonderful years. Jackie was the love of his life and his best friend. Tim cherished her above all else, and his devotion to her was evident to everyone who knew them. They built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support for each other, creating countless memories together over the years. Their bond was a beautiful example of true partnership and enduring love.

He was a proud father to Allen Gardner (Becky), Melanie Wood (Bryan), Jonathan Gardner (Amy), and Annie Murphy (JB). His greatest joy came from being a devoted grandpa to his nine grandchildren: Jackson Gardner, Sophie Gardner, Luke Wood, Zoe Wood, Adilynn Gardner, Grant Murphy, Lily Parker Murphy, Bailey Ford, and Grace Ford.

Tim was also cherished by his five brothers: Jim Gardner (Betty), Dan Gardner (Martha), David Gardner (Margie), John Gardner (Paula), and Tom Gardner (Patrick). He shared a special relationship with his brother-in-law, David Newman, Dale Newman (Anna), and his sister-in-law Jeannette Fehr (Mark). Tim had many dear friends who enriched his life and whose lives he touched deeply - you know who you are.

Tim was an employee of Walter A. Wood Supply for 20 years before going to Engstrom Services where he worked and retired after 21 years. After retirement, Tim took on the most important role of all - being a full-time grandpa. He was passionate about his faith in Christ, his family, and lending a helping hand wherever he could. There was nothing around the house he couldn’t fix, and he always found ways to make life brighter for those around him.

Tim was a light in every room he entered. He had an unshakable faith and a gift for finding the good in any situation. He exemplified what it meant to live like
Christ - warm, loving, and always leaving people better than he found them. His positive spirit and unwavering devotion to his family and friends will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.

The family will receive friends at Tim and Jackie’s residence in Chattanooga on Saturday, November 2nd, from 12:00 p.m.-4 p.m.

A private service will be held at a later date.

We would like to express our heart-felt gratitude to the caregivers at Hearth Hospice. Your compassionate care and unwavering support during this difficult time have meant the world to us. You truly are angels on earth.
