Game week one has arrived. When the summer starts, it seems like it will never get here. When August camp starts, it goes by quickly. The Chattanooga Mocs are here with kickoff Saturday afternoon at Memphis. It’s the start of the 118th season on record for the program.
Game week always begins with the Chat with the Mocs radio show. The weekly spot on WFLI Chattanooga (96.1 FM, 100.3 FM & 1070 AM) as well as through GoMocs.com. This week’s program features Coach Rusty Wright, Vice Chancellor for Athletics Mark Wharton and perhaps a special guest or two joining “Voice of the Mocs” Jim Reynolds.
It is coming live from Finley Stadium’s Ultra Club which is hosting Mocs Sports Properties’ sponsorship event. The following weeks it shifts to Miller’s Ale House at Northgate with Wright joined by a selected student-athlete.
The Mocs are 61-55-1 (.526) all-time in season openers and it's the 50th season opening on the road for the Mocs and second straight on the road at an FBS opponent.
Since the start of FCS Football in 1982, Chattanooga has opened the season with an FBS opponent 14 times (1-13). 20-9 in all other matchups. This is the 86th time game one is played in-state (54-30-1).
Wright is the 5th Mocs ball coach to lead the squad into a season seven or more times. The list: Scrappy Moore (35, 19-16), Buddy Nix (9, 5-4), Russ Huesman (8, 2-6) and Joe Morrison (7, 4-3).
"We're excited to get this season started and what better way than with Chat with the Mocs and celebrating our sponsors. We are grateful for the partners we have and their impact on our student-athletes." - Vice Chancellor for Athletics Mark Wharton
