Former Lee University pitcher Logan Workman has steadily moved up in the Tampa Bay Rays organization since being selected by the Rays in the 7th round of the 2021 Major League Draft. He is currently enjoying his best season in minor league play with the Triple-A Durham (N.C.) Bulls.
Before his last two starting assignments, Workman had posted seven straight wins. His current pitching record stands at 8-4 and could easily be 9-4. In his last start he worked five innings and was in line to pick up the win with the Bulls leading Lehigh Valley (Allentown, Pa.) 4-2 in the bottom half of the 9th.
A three-run walk-off homer gave Lehigh Valley the win and ended in a no-decision for Workman.
After Thursday’s (Aug. 21) game, the Bulls are 25-20 in the second half of International League standings and 70-50 overall. Workman has registered eye-catching numbers against league opponents. He is No.2 in the International League with 120 strikeouts, No.1 in innings pitched 127, and 5th in earn run average 3.75.
Workman was asked if he had added any new pitches or had changed anything that might have resulted with him recording outstanding numbers for the Bulls’ staff and against the International League hitters. “Not as much,” he answered. “I am really just focused on putting good pitches together and locating them more than I am trying to throw pitches past hitters every single time and missing (the mark).”
The 6-4, 205-pound Workman points outs that he went into 2025 looking forward to a full season with Durham and likely will have six starts remaining. “I’m not sure about the playoffs,” he added. “The team is just focused on each game and winning game by game and see what happens.”
However, the former Flame admits he has his future in baseball tucked away in the back of his mind. “I have talked to them,” (meaning his agent and the Bull coaches). “A lot of what we talk about is just continuing to put together quality outings and having a good healthy finish.”
Stay tuned! If all works out, it could be interesting to report on the final weeks of baseball in Sept. or the beginning of 2026 for Logan Workman.
