McCallie Golfers Claim Hurricane invitational Title

Signal Mountain Girls Defeat GPS, Boyd Bucanan, Bradley Central

Led by a couple of linksters tying for third place individually, McCallie edged out Walker Valley and Signal Mountain for the Hurricane Invitational boy's crown Monday.

The Blue Tornado blew through the competition, posting a 14-over-par 302 team score, while the Mustangs won a scorecard playoff over Signal Mountain for runner-up honors after both finished regulation play with 304s.

Meanwhile, the Signal Mountain girls had little troubling taking home yet another event championship with a 7-over 151, winning by a dozen strokes over GPS (163) and 17 shots over Boyd Buchanan and Bradley Central, which both fired 168s.

On a beautiful day for golf, 13 boys' teams and 10 girls' squads converged on the Winstone Golf Club, in Ringgold, Ga., for the event hosted by the East Hamilton link program.

While Signal Mountain's Sam Otwell was the lone male golfer to break par, firing a 3-under-par 69 to take low-medalist honors and Cleveland's Dalton Franklin shooting even-par, the Tornado was led by Will Elrod and Pierce Grant, who tied Casper Johansson for third place with 1-over 73s.

Rounding out the boys' Top 8, Walker Valley teammates Harrison Yost and Drew Thompson tied for sixth with 2-over 74s, while Carson McHarge, of Chattanooga Christian, was just a stroke back at 75.

A five-way tie for ninth place at 4-over 76 included Walker Valley freshman Cody Walter, Brycen Blake, of CCS, Baylor's Sam Scearce and Hale Hamilton, plus Brayden Helle, of Signal Mountain.

Joining Elrod and Grant to round out the winning McCallie scored were William McDowell (77) and Joseph Fielden (79).

Walker Valley's saw Knox Finch cap the team tally with an 80 to go with Yost, Thompson and Walter's scores.

Tucker Cruise (77) and Benji Lewis (82) paired with Otwell and Helle for the Signal Mountain total.

CCS (308) claimed fourth place, with Baylor (311) fifth,,followed by East Hamilton (316), Cleveland (318), Collegedale Academy (326), Bradley (319) and Silverdale Baptist Academy (321) rounded out the Top 10.

The other player to break par also came from Signal Mountain as May May McGee topped the girls' race with a 1-under 71, while teammate Maddy O'Dell finished fifth with an 80 for victors.

GPS got a 5-over 77 from Katherine Potts to finish third individually, while teammate Harper Wakefield tied for seventh with an 86.

Bradley was led by Colby Ann Turner's 82, to take sixth individually, while freshman Avery Chastain tied Wakefield for seventh with an 85.
Bearette Addie Geren finished ninth with and 87, although her score didn't count in the team total.

Alli Troxell claimed second low-medalist honors with an even-par 72, while Boyd Buchanan teammate Sydney Baker shot 96.

CCS and East Hamilton tied for fifth place in the team tallies, with 182s, while Ooltewah was seventh at 186.
