Awa Dramé, MD, a non-invasive cardiologist, has joined Hamilton Cardiovascular Institute.

A graduate of St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies, Dr. Dramé completed her residency in internal medicine at the University of South Florida in Tampa and a fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. She also holds a master of science in Public Health, Tropical Medicine, and International Health, with distinction, from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in London, England.

“I worked for one year in medical research,” Dr. Dramé said. “I enjoyed it, but I realized that it wasn’t for me because I missed interaction with patients.”

She says meeting patients, learning the conditions they’re dealing with and then getting a resolution and coming back to your office smiling, “that’s the biggest reward one can have. “That’s the best part about medicine.”

The youngest of three siblings, Dr. Dramé grew up along the Ivory Coast and has been in the United States since her late teens. She knew early in her life she wanted to practice medicine after watching her mother.

“Most of my summers were spent at the hospital with her,” Dr. Dramé said. “So, very early on, I knew medicine was what I wanted to do.”

Dr. Dramé treats a range of heart-related issues, including coronary artery disease, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, heart failure, arrhythmias, atrial fibrillation and more.

In her spare time, she enjoys ceramics, swimming and martial arts like capoeira and taekwondo. She enjoys spending time with her infant daughter. She is fluent in French and English and has a working knowledge of medical Spanish.
