The Covenant College women's soccer team took on Asbury on the road looking to bounce back from a midweek loss to Maryville. Behind a strong defense, the Scots did just that, defeating the Eagles 1-0.
In the 14th minute, Covenant had its first scoring opportunity as Mae Pierce had her shot saved at the top right of the goal. Covenant keeper Bronwyn Kickasola made a pair of saves in the 24th and 38th minute. At the half, each team had attempted five shots.
Rachel Wall delivered the winning goal in the 59th minute as she dribbled around the keeper before sending her shot in on the left side of the net. Asbury had a pair of corner kicks in the 66th, 68th minute, and 73rd minute, but were unable to get a shot off of any of the set pieces The Scots kept looking for a second goal as Wall and AnnaLi Weekley each had shots in the final 10 minutes.
Looking to see out the result, the Covenant defense remained strong, not allowing a Asbury shot in the final 23 minutes of the match.
Covenant moves to 6-3 all-time against Asbury. The Scots outshot the Eagles 11-9, but Asbury had a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal. Kickasola totaled five saves. Each team committed six fouls and had three corner kicks.
The Scots take on Sewanee on Tuesday night on the road.
