Goodwill Industries of the Greater Chattanooga Area is celebrating America Recycles Day with an electronics donation drive on Friday, Nov. 15.

Officials said, "Every year, more than 59 million tons of electronics become e-waste, making electronics the fastest-growing waste problem in the world. Last year, GIGCA recycled 139,345 pounds of computers and IT-related equipment through a partnership with EPB and Dell Reconnect. By responsibly recycling electronics, toxic chemicals and non-biodegradable materials are prevented from entering landfills."

“We partner with Dell and EPB to reduce waste and make it convenient for people to recycle their unwanted electronics,” said Michelle Turner, director of marketing and communications at GIGCA.
“The materials in these donated products can be reused in the production of new products, minimizing waste that goes into landfills and the need to generate additional materials like plastics, glass and metals.”

Donations of electronics, including computers, monitors, printers, scanners, keyboards, tablets, mobile phones, as well as clothes and household goods, can be made at one of Goodwill’s 18 donation locations. Goodwill accepts these items each day Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. A list of Goodwill Donation Xpress locations can be found at www.goodwillchatt.org/donate.
