Songbirds Guitar Museum in Chattanooga has a new location, Executive Director Reed Caldwell told the Chattanooga Beer Board on Tuesday morning.
He said the move will be complete when a beer and alcohol permit is obtained.
On Tuesday, the business was unanimously approved for a new beer license that was needed because the location of the business changed.
The move is from 35 Station St., to a location just across the street to 212 West Main St. He said he is looking forward to getting off the second floor and being on the main throughfare.
The non-profit Songbirds Foundation will continue doing what it always has done through the museum, he said. It will still be a small museum and a place for music with a stage and will be used for concerts and special events.
He told the beer board that all profits will be used to buy guitars for kids across the South. Each year, between 1,000 and 2,000 guitars are given away by Songbirds. Year-to-date, he said that the foundation has given 5,000 to 6,000 guitars to kids in 10 states.
The application for a new consumer permit was approved unanimously. Mr. Caldwell thanked them for giving Songbirds the ability to serve beer that will help raise money for kids.
The Beer Board also gave a carry-out beer permit to Stop N Save Mart at 7018 Shallowford Rd. that previously was a Kankus. The owner Amit Vyas told the members of the Board that he had worked in other convenience stores for 10 to 15 years. His policy is to never make an alcohol or tobacco sale without checking the customer’s ID. He said that the birthdate to allow a sale is always posted on his counter and the person’s ID is scanned into a Point-of-Sale system for verifications.
