  • Friday, February 16, 2024

Southern Adventist University’s School of Music welcomes Muen Vanessa Wei, guest piano soloist, to play with its Symphony Orchestra, directed by Laurie Redmer Cadwallader, in concert on Sunday, March 3, at 7:30 p.m. in Collegedale Church of Seventh-day Adventists.

The evening’s repertoire includes Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor and Symphony No. 2 in E minor.

A native of China, Dr. Wei has performed around the world as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral pianist. As a chamber musician, she has collaborated with musicians Lynn Harrell, Henry Gronnior, Henry Hutchinson, Peter Lloyd, Ko Iwasaki and Joel Smirnoff, among others. Dr. Wei joined the Astralis Ensemble in 2018 and performed with the group across the United States. Applauded by critics for her “delicate playing” and “admirable virtuosic skills,” she released her debut album in 2019, “Im 3/4 Takt.”

Dr. Wei earned her doctorate in musical arts from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and joined the faculty at Lee University as an assistant professor in 2021.
