Clifford Eugene McGee
Clifford Eugene McGee passed away at his home on Friday, March 29, 2024, at the age of 94.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army (Korean War), worked as a welder for 42 years at Chattanooga Boiler and Tank, and attended East Chattanooga Church of God.
Eugene was born December 10, 1929, to Effie and Willie McGee. His legacy of hard work began at a young age and continued throughout his life. Providing for his family was his “hobby.” Eugene was a helper – whether he was working on someone’s car, fixing a faucet, painting walls, or giving money to his grandkids – he gave of himself unselfishly. Eugene’s favorite saying, always said with a smile and a glint in his eye, was – “Shape up, sharp up, or ship out!” He will be missed the most for his genuine, kind heart, his unconditional love, and his faithful farewell – “Tell all the kids ol’ Papaw loves them.” We love you too Papaw.
Eugene leaves behind his devoted wife of 68 years, Gracie McGee, and four children: David (Margay) McGee, Karen Brown, Donna (Lawrence) Rose - all of Chattanooga, and Lori (Phillip) Bridges of Spring City. Eugene’s greatest joy was being Papaw to his grandchildren: Cody (Jordan) McGee, Caylee (Jay) Peters, Skylar Kay, and Stephen Kay and his five great grandchildren: Jamey & Eli McGee, Elliot & Riley McGee and Hutton Peters. He was preceded in death by his parents, Effie and Willie McGee; sister, Louise McGee; brother, Lloyd McGee; and grandson, Curry McGee.
Visitation will be Monday from 4-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 12-1 p.m. at Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga.
The funeral will be on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Don Glenn officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Chattanooga.
